Anti-American bands on tour
Because of my interest in nightlife and my former column about the subject, I'm still getting press releases from promoters and agents about various bands and DJs on tour. Sometimes I welcome the PR contact because it helps me identify good parties to attend as well as potential photo ops. for my personal site and my job.More and more these tours and events are becoming overtly political and only serve one purpose, to bash our President and American foreign policy. This is the case with a release I received this morning about the "Midterms Matter Tour." Here are some details...
Dave Matthews Band, O.A.R., and former members of Phish and the Grateful Dead are among the artists participating in the "Midterms Matter Tour," a multi-city voter registration campaign staged this summer by the non-profit, nonpartisan organization HeadCount.
Notice the release calls the headlining group, HeadCount, a nonpartisan, non-profit organization. But the following quote caught my attention. And it suggests to me this tour is nothing more than an attempt to oust our Republican majority in the upcoming midterm elections.
"Democracy seems to be slipping away from us year by year," said Weir, a member of HeadCount's board of directors. "The only true way to fight against that is with our votes, while we still have a chance."
Exactly how is democracy slipping away from us Mr. Weir? Could it be the anti-Bush/anti-American liberals taking every chance they can to undermine our national security during wartime? Could it be the radical-left organizations marching every weekend in protest of a war that's essential for the survival of Israel and western society?
I could go on and on about the subliminal message being presented in this release. But organizations like this will never be upfront about their agenda. They'll hide their political face behind the terms non-profit and nonpartisan while taking every chance they get to protest the existence of a majority GOP.
I'll take Mr. Weir's advice and do my part for our democracy by not supporting HeadCount. Nor will I support the bands on their tour that "reportedly" care so much for our liberties while taking every free-stage moment to bash our President and undermine our efforts to establish freedom and democracy in the Middle East.
