Reid gives ethics a left hook

Looks like that ole' case of liberal double-standards has reared it's ugly head again...

Reid Attended Boxing Matches Paid By Nevada Athletic Commission

WASHINGTON — Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid accepted free ringside tickets from the Nevada Athletic Commission to three professional boxing matches while that state agency was trying to influence him on federal regulation of boxing.

The way I see it, Harry 'dangerously incompetent' Reid clearly violated Senate ethics rules.

The Nevada Athletic Commission was obviously trying to influence Reid on his legislation to federalize the regulation of boxing. (A Democrat trying to grow the federal government? Never!) And Reid, one of the biggest ethics hound dogs in the Senate, took multiple tickets to sporting events he doesn't hide from having an interest in.

And yet, Reid has been the biggest accuser of ethics issues in our government, going as far to suggest Republicans are fostering a culture of corruption. But when the corruption falls in his lap, he gladly accepts the tickets and now defends his actions.

He should have paid attention to those corrupt Republicans who paid for their tickets or recused themselves from the legislation. Now he's nothing more than the pot calling the kettle black. And I'm waiting to see which Republican with a backbone will call it like it is.

From Russia with love

This story is a few days old and comes from a symposium-style column on frontpagemag.com. I wanted to post it here because I believe it needs to be out there.

Surely you can bet the MSM will never publish anything quite like this. The idea of the anti-war left's main talking point against Iraq getting debunked would crush so many agendas, I can here Patrick Kennedy's medicine cabinet opening right now. Okay, that was low, but it was just so darn easy. Anyhow, read this and let the debating begin...

Iraq, WMDs and Troubling Revelations

Just recently, Saddam Hussein's former southern regional commander, Gen. Al-Tikriti, gave the first videotaped testimony confirming that Iraq had WMDs up to the American invasion in 2003 and that Russia helped remove them prior to the war. His testimony confirms numerous other sources that have pointed to Russia's secret alliance with Iraq and the coordinated moving of WMDs before the American liberation. Today we've invited three experts on this subject to discuss the details of Al-Tikriti's testimony and its larger significance.

Sharon Stone opens her...

Sharon Stone Blasts Bush on AIDS
Sharon Stone took no prisoners Thursday night in her opening remarks at the annual Cinema Against AIDS dinner in Cannes.

Speaking before several hundred of the wealthiest people in the world, Stone — a vision in white linen with a Medusa's nest of blond hair extensions — opened the 25th annual AmFar dinner with a thunderbolt against President Bush.

"Our president has spent $167 million on abstinence programs,” she said. “And zero dollars on sex education. Zero dollars on teaching about safe sex."

How is it Hollyweird liberals can get away with saying such stupid things?

I'm serious! These people make tons of money and garner tons of respect and many have absolutely no brains whatsoever. There should be a law that takes money away from these idiots every time they say something absurd. AIDS funding would certainly never be an issue.

So Ms. Stone blasts President Bush on AIDS and his spending on abstinence. Yet she fails to mention President Bush has spent and pledged more money on AIDS than any president in history. His $15 billion AIDS spending was also the largest amount ever pledged by any nation. Better yet, if you would combine the money spent on AIDS by every country in the world, the U.S. under Bush is spending more.

However, Stone feels compelled to blast Bush because he's allotted $167 million on teaching our children abstinence. Oh the humanity! Clearly we can see between the legs, I mean lines, of Stone's commentary.

Prepare for the MSM firestorm

The lead sentence today reads...
WASHINGTON - A Pentagon spokesman said Friday that he believes the military's investigation is winding down into allegations that Marines committed unprovoked killings of as many as two dozen Iraqi civilians.

Get the details from Allahpundit on Hot Air.

What bothers me about this story is I fear our MSM and other anti-war hacks will use this one isolated incident as a pulpit to grand-stand on how terrible the situation is in Iraq. No, I'm not saying this is something to be taken lightly. If anyone fires on innocent and unarmed civilians, they should be tried for murder. But I don't believe the entire U.S. Marine Corp or the mission in general should be convicted of this particular crime.

The problem with our society is the knee-jerk reaction by many anti-war folk to highlight, almost celebrate anything negative that comes from Coalition forces. Remember Abu-Grab and the media firestorm that set off? How about the accusations of torture at Guantanamo? Better yet, just take a look at your local news on a daily basis and read the countless stories of death and destruction in Iraq.

When was the last time you read a story about the schools and infrastructure getting built in Iraq? When was the last time you read about individual Iraqis opening businesses and taking part in commerce for the first time in their lives? When was the last time you read about the simple freedoms we all take for granted here in America being celebrated in a country that has suffered for decades? Guess the media doesn't find those topics sexy enough.

But here comes a story of murder by some Marines. It doesn't look good by any stretch. But you can bet this will be played as the sum of all fears of how flawed the mission has become in Iraq. You can bet this will be the talking-point for the next several months of why we should leave Iraq now.

All I ask of these anti-war individuals is to take a step back and think about how many innocent civilians are killed on a daily basis by these insurgent Islamic-radicals. Ask yourself if you're willing to for-go the mission to free the world of terrorism because of this one incident.

Sadly the answer is yes. The moment the first person died in Iraq; democratic leaders turned their backs on the mission just as they did in Vietnam. Over 2 million civilians died after we withdrew there. Draw your own conclusions of what could happen if we withdrew from Iraq...

Anti-American bands on tour

Because of my interest in nightlife and my former column about the subject, I'm still getting press releases from promoters and agents about various bands and DJs on tour. Sometimes I welcome the PR contact because it helps me identify good parties to attend as well as potential photo ops. for my personal site and my job.

More and more these tours and events are becoming overtly political and only serve one purpose, to bash our President and American foreign policy. This is the case with a release I received this morning about the "Midterms Matter Tour." Here are some details...

Dave Matthews Band, O.A.R., and former members of Phish and the Grateful Dead are among the artists participating in the "Midterms Matter Tour," a multi-city voter registration campaign staged this summer by the non-profit, nonpartisan organization HeadCount.

Notice the release calls the headlining group, HeadCount, a nonpartisan, non-profit organization. But the following quote caught my attention. And it suggests to me this tour is nothing more than an attempt to oust our Republican majority in the upcoming midterm elections.

"Democracy seems to be slipping away from us year by year," said Weir, a member of HeadCount's board of directors. "The only true way to fight against that is with our votes, while we still have a chance."

Exactly how is democracy slipping away from us Mr. Weir? Could it be the anti-Bush/anti-American liberals taking every chance they can to undermine our national security during wartime? Could it be the radical-left organizations marching every weekend in protest of a war that's essential for the survival of Israel and western society?

I could go on and on about the subliminal message being presented in this release. But organizations like this will never be upfront about their agenda. They'll hide their political face behind the terms non-profit and nonpartisan while taking every chance they get to protest the existence of a majority GOP.

I'll take Mr. Weir's advice and do my part for our democracy by not supporting HeadCount. Nor will I support the bands on their tour that "reportedly" care so much for our liberties while taking every free-stage moment to bash our President and undermine our efforts to establish freedom and democracy in the Middle East.

Anti-War Crimes

Michelle Malkin posted a brief hit about how trash magazine Shock stole and reproduced milblogger/war journalist extraordinaire Michael Yon's poignant photo of Maj. Mark Bieger in Iraq.

Not only is this extremely unethical for a major publication, it's also a disgusting attempt to politicize a truly riveting photo of the heroism of our Armed Forces fighting terrorists in Iraq.

As Michelle said, you can read the details from Blackfive and learn who to send your comments to.

And I'll second her call to show Michael support by adding the link to purchase this amazing photograph.

Thank you, Michael, for putting your life on the line to document our modern-day super-heroes.

Rendered speechless

***Updated with some new info and links***

After chatting with my wife last night, who happens to be an officer in our great military, I wanted to add something interesting to the mix here. As it turns out, the "don't ask, don't tell" policy also applies to heterosexuals as well. From officers to enlisted, restrictions on relationships are applied across the board to ensure the professional structure of command. This is no more discrimination than any company instituting a sexual harassment policy at the workplace.

Mr. Sandoval failed to do the minor research on the professional structure of the organization he so abhors, so the Real Republican has done it for you.

Others who have chimed in on this issue...

Republican Witch tries to understand the nut job logic...
And you want us to dismantle the military? Why? Do you think the whole world will suddenly become a peaceful and loving place once the big, bad U.S. of A is disarmed? That we'll all get together like the old Coke commercials, and "teach the world to sing?"

Different River offers an interesting suggestion...
If Supervisor Sandoval thinks life would be better in a country without a military, perhaps he should move to one. I would recommend Somalia. Since they don’t have a military, it must be much more peaceful there.

San Francisco Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval was a guest on Hannity & Colmes again this evening to discuss the nutty legislation that would ban the JROTC program from SF city high schools.

We all know Mr. Sandoval because he embarrassed himself and the city of San Francisco when he suggested the U.S. didn't need a military. But now he's back on the same program looking like an even bigger tool shed and spewing the same whacky comments.

Sean Hannity asked him about 5 times if he felt America would be the free nation it is without a military. Sandoval skirted the question a few times and tried to suggest it was our less-than-noble reasons for invading Iraq for his displeasure with our military. As if fighting terrorism could ever been considered less-than-noble by anyone other than a terrorist. But we'll let Sandoval go with it for now because he's only hurting himself.

But what struck me about this interview is when Alan Colmes asked, "if the military removed their 'don't ask, don't tell' policy, would you still oppose the Jr.ROTC?" Sandoval replied..."to an extent." His reasoning..."because these recruitment programs target poor minorities."

Message to Mr. Sandoval, the JROTC teaches our children leadership. It teaches the value of citizenship, personal responsibility, and service to the community. It helps prepares our children for a top education at one of the service academies. It helps prepare our children for a distinguished career that is not only highly honorable but can be quite lucrative. And not to mention, the JROTC helps these "poor minorities" accomplish things in life they could only dream about without them.

Mr. Sandoval can say anything he wants about not having a military. Most of us will just laugh and shake our heads. But the moment he and the rest of the San Francisco city supervisors start taking away leadership opportunities from our children for political reasons, our voices need to be heard.

Email the Board of Supervisors to express your displeasure with their attempts to ban the JROTC.

Email Mr. Gerardo Sandoval to thank him for continuing to make the city of San Francisco and himself look like fools.

Sarandon endorses Clinton opponent

Susan Sarandon opposes Hillary.

NEW YORK -- Actress Susan Sarandon, a longtime liberal political activist and outspoken opponent of the Iraq war, endorsed an anti-war Democrat challenging Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's re-election bid Tuesday.

These people will eat their own children! You can be liberal across the board, but if you voted in favor of protecting our country, you're radio-active to the radical left.

What gets me about Sarandon and other "anti-war" activists are their odd positions on national security. They posture as though they have some deep knowledge about this war, but every time they open their mouth, they sound like idiots. Did Sarandon or any other "peace loving" hippies ever condemn the brutal dictatorships of Iraq, Iran, Syria, Afghanistan, etc. ect? Did they ever question how much "peace" Saddam Hussein brought to the world with his torture chambers, his Kurdish genocide, and his anti-western rhetoric that promoted the seed of terrorism? Did Sarandon ever protest the Islamic-fascist dictatorships of the Axis of Evil as the prime contributors to Middle East turmoil?

Of course not! That would mean she'd have to do some research. And her research might prove her anti-American position wrong.

Face it Sarandon, as long as whack jobs like you are unwilling to recognize the root of terrorism evil, there will never be peace on earth. As long as you and your cohorts continue to condemn our nation for protecting the rights of the western world, Islamic radicals will continue to spew their anti-Semitic and anti-western hate to the very people they oppress. And as long as you appease these radicals as revolutionary freedom fighters, you'll continue to contribute to the greatest threat our world has ever faced.

I think we should start a campaign calling the "anti-war" movement the "turn our heads in the other direction when dictators kill and oppress in the name of peace" movement.

Inconvenient indoctrination

Expose the left ran a cool hit on a story out of LA this morning worth checking out...

Matt Drudge is reporting Sarah Utley, a science teacher at Beverly Hills High School, is organizing a trip to take the school's 1500 students to see Al Gore's new movie, "An Inconvenient Truth".

This is yet another example of educators using the classroom to indoctrinate their students on ideological and radical liberal views. But ask Mrs. Utley if she'll support inviting one of the hundreds of scientist who refute Gore's claims to speak to her students and I bet her enthusiasm won't be quite the same.

Drudge also noted the school will use some 30 gas guzzling buses to take the students to and from the theater. Not that Mrs. Utley would care about that environmental impact.

Sarah Utley's homepage on the school district website.

Here is her e-mail so you can tell her how you feel.

Question for all you friendly bloggers

I have a question for all those out there who are staunchly opposed to this latest NSA counterterrorism program. I'm serious; I'd like some general feedback about this current issue that has the MSM fear-stoking the plates in hopes of another scandal.

I'd like to know why you are in favor or oppose this. I'd also like to know why most liberals are posturing against such a program, when many supported their own Bill Clinton and his far more intrusive Eschelon spy program.

I'm not trying to start a verbal war here; I'm just interested in trying to figure out what seems to be a severe double-standard. I really would like to read your opinions.

While you're at it, read a really good column from Michelle Malkin about the NSA just doing their jobs.

Update: Whose side are they on?

I spent some time on Huffpuff again tonight enjoying my daily rants with anti-Bush moonbats barking over the latest NSA counterterrorism scandal. Word of advice: if you're bored and want some cheep comedic entertainment, liberal blogs are the way to go.

But seriously, I continued to read over and over these idiots calling Bush a liar, a fascist, a Nazi and so on. But not one of these individuals would accept the truth of this current "baggage" scandal by the USA Today.

So I sat down to watch Hannity & Colmes, where Sean Hannity and Alam Colmes were talking with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Newt was basically saying he would support the NSA on any counterterrorism plan, but felt the Bush Administration had been very confusing with their response to this and other NSA issues.

It was at that point that Sean Hannity said one of the most brilliant things about all this political posturing. I looked for the transcript online but couldn't find it yet, so I'll do my best to paraphrase Sean's points.

Sean basically stated that this entire data mining program has been discussed out of context by virtually every media agency out there. He even pointed out that both Newt and Alan used the words "wiretapping" while discussing it when in fact, this current scandal was about data mining. Learn more about data mining. As Hannity said, this program only looks at calling trends. It doesn't look at names, addresses or anything else. And it certainly does not "wiretap" or "record" calls.

Sean then asked Alan and Newt why this NSA program was suddenly a big deal, when it was Bill Clinton who introduced us to Eschelon and Carnivore, a far more intrusive spy program. Why is this suddenly a hot button topic, when no one on Capital Hill had any issues with E&C. As Sean pointed out, did it bother them back then to have email, website visitations, chatroom content and telephone calls monitored? And we're not just talking about international calls here, but domestic calls between two ordinary American citizens. Keeping in mind, this was pre-9/11 days when Clinton was quite busy ignoring growing terrorist threats.

And so I sat there watching Sean bring this up and neither Alan or Newt could say a thing. Sean Hannity had just blown this entire scandal into liberal smithereens and left nothing but crickets in his wake.

Whose side are they on anyway?

USA Today has breaking news to report. Its amazing news that is so timely, so important, so...well, breaking...it was first reported last December by the New York Times. Way to go suckers!

In an attempt to smear the current CIA director nomination of Air Force General Michael Hayden - and continue the usual media assault on our national security - the USA Today released a story today that suggests the NSA is trolling our phone calls.

This program does not involve the NSA listening to or recording conversations. But the spy agency is using the data to analyze calling patterns in an effort to detect terrorist activity, sources said in separate interviews.

Michelle Malkin has a real nice summary of this blatant attack on the current administrations attempts to keep our country safe. And be sure to read Confederate Yankee's take on this in-your-face media bias.

My view can best be summed up with one word...SO???

Would someone from the USA Today tell me if their company has ever used reader data to analyze ad placement? Story popularity? Direct marketing? Of course they have! The USA Today, or any paper for that matter, compiles data of reader and user information on a daily basis. It's a general practice of any company wishing to learn trends of their customers.

Hell, I just got off the phone with a company that showed me how to read the trends of people who have signed up for my sports newsletters. It allows me to target various customers with emails they might wish to receive. It's one of the most basic principals of marketing.

The NSA has a job to do. Their job is to protect us. If studying calling trends could help break up a potential threat, go for it! Phone records aren't the hardest date to come by anyhow. And since when is it news that our phone companies are giving away our info? Sign up for free long distance through any major carrier and you'll notice the telemarketing right away. Do you think your number just got into their system by luck?

What worries me most about this story isn't the fact USA Today is trying to smear the NSA or our President. What worries me is that yet another media organization has just exposed another way our country was trying to protect us. Which leads me to ask, whose side are they on anyway?

Liberal pain killers

I've been feeling pretty crappy the last few days and away from the computer, but I thought I would drop this little issue on the table.

(D.,RI)Rep. Patrick Kennedy will enter rehab for addiction to prescription pain medication this evening after a highly publicized car crash near the Capitol.

Now, if you all remember, we just blogged about the Rush Limbaugh pain killer deal a few days ago. To refresh, Rush has battled an addiction to pain killers while dealing with complications from spinal surgery. He admitted his addiction and sought help. Unable to prove any criminal activity, the State Attorney made a deal with Rush and his attorney, Roy Black, to drop all charges and stop the investigation if Rush agreed to remain in rehab for 18 months.

My beef with this issue is how our press will respond. Across all major news sites (including FOX), headlines proclaimed Rush to be "arrested." Liberal blogs basked in their glory by making fun of Rush and his addiction. Wire stories abound about the criminal activity in the Rush case, not his addiction, not his rehab, nor about his clear victory in this case. Now one of their own is seeking help for a similar problem. How will the media react this time?

My bet is you'll see more talk of compassion for Rep. Kennedy's addiction. You'll see stories focus on how Rep. Kennedy is facing his problem head on and is using his addiction to teach others. There will be no talk of criminal activity. There will be no talk of hypocrisy. There will be no questions of Rep. Kennedy's ability to do his job, nor will there be anyone suggesting his resignation.

For the record, I admire anyone who faces their problems. I admire anyone who can admit they are wrong and seek to correct it. I applaud Rush and Patrick Kennedy if they are able to seek help and fix their addictions.

This is where a Real Republican differs from the other side. I can look at both Limbaugh and Kennedy and see their problems as similar and respect their problems just the same. I have compassion for both men because it's a cold-hearted reality that people have problems. And I can look at these two individuals and say congratulations, they're human. But Washington, the press, and many on the left cannot and will not do that. One pain addiction will always be called "criminal" while the other will be called "courageous."
